Why Politics?

You might ask why I am including politics in this blog?

Few years back, I said something that affected my daughter. I forgot exactly what it was but she said that I am a racist. Racist, what? During my generation, I can say anything to anyone and no one will get offended by it!

As she prepares for college, I learned they have to mark what race they are in their application form. I wonder what it was for until I learned about "affirmative action". It basically meant that minorities are given priority getting accepted to a college over other "races". I thought, great, until I found we were not a minority. We are Asians! Ouch.

My other daughter started preparing for college as well. Paid 96% of the tuition or almost full tuition. Upon conversing with other parents from the school, what I learned is that, if one cannot afford to pay the full tuition because of large debt regardless of your financial standing, the schools' holistic process will provide a large discount to get you in. For instance, someone who is making $200k/year that has no debt may pay full tuition over someone who is making $400k/year but will large debt and pays only half the tuition. True story.

The system is not fair. Politics got something to do with it. Now that this affected me personally, I started digging more about it.
